Second Chance Bangkok
Second Chance Bangkok is a second hand shop run by residents of Bangkok's largest slum, Klong Toey.
The shop sells second-hand goods and sells them at affordable prices, or passes them on to people who lack the resources to purchase essential items. They rely on donations for their stock, and therefore their ability to support local residents.
Many local residents are employed by Second Chance, in the shop itself, and through the upcycled project, where women with skills in sewing are transforming old clothing into beautiful bags and giftware.
Women working in the upcycled project gain skills that are able to be transferred into their own small businesses. Second Chance Bangkok seeks to combine environmental sustainability and social responsibility!
Chris and Jodie MacCartney are passionate co-founders of Second Chance Bangkok. Chris and Jodie, along with their daughters, Grace, Ruby and Millie, have lived and served alongside the people living in poverty in Bangkok since January 2007.
The MacCartney’s primary focus is empowering local leaders to develop projects with neighbours that help to alleviate poverty in their community.
